What is repentance?
In the Bible, repentance is a change of heart and mind that can bring people closer to God. It can include turning away from sin, turning to God for forgiveness, confessing and forsaking sins, and obeying God's commandments, all motivated by a love for God.
The Lexham Bible Dictionary defines repentance as an event in which an individual attains a divinely-provided new understanding of their behavior, feels compelled to change their behavior, and desires to begin a new relationship with God (Hebrews 6:1; Acts 20:21).
True Christian repentance involves a heartfelt conviction of sin, a contrition over the offense to God, a turning away from the sinful way of life, and a turning towards a God-honoring way of life.
The short answer about repentance is that whatever sinful behavior you’re involved in, stop doing it. The more complex answer is that you get to a point in your life where you don’t want to perform that sinful behavior anymore, and God helps you stop doing it by the power of the Holy Spirit through a process called sanctification.

Repent or perish.
