Amazing Forgiveness
READ John 3:1-21
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
-- John 3:16 (NIV)
At Charlie Kirk’s funeral on 9/21/25, his widow, Erika, did something totally unexpected. She forgave her husband’s alleged killer. That amazing gesture aligned with what Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount: “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins (Matthew 6:14-15)” As hard as it must have been, Erika understood that she had to forgive her husband’s assassin if she expected God to forgive her sins.
Similarly, in 1995, Azim Khamisa forgave the killer of his fourteen-year-old son, Tariq, who was murdered while delivering pizza. This father’s forgiveness of his son’s killer is similar to God’s forgiveness of us. Our sin put Jesus on the cross, resulting in his death. His sacrifice paid for our sins, past, present, and future. As our scripture for today states, he graciously forgives our sins if we ask, and are willing to repent and put our trust in him.

Thanks be to God for his amazing forgiveness.
Prayer: Father in heaven, please help us to forgive those who have sinned against us.
