Meeting Together

I’m part of a running group that meets most Wednesday mornings at 6:30 AM. We typically run five miles through a beautiful New England town, populated with two-hundred to three-hundred-year-old colonial homes, situated near the Connecticut river. In the warmer weather, we stop after the run to dip in a generous friend’s pool, then enjoy freshly-baked homemade scones or bread, and hot tea or coffee. During the colder months, we stop after the run at a local bakery, purchase great muffins and juice or hot drinks, and enjoy each other’s company. This has been a highlight of my week for years.
I also look forward to attending our church’s Saturday evening service, then enjoying dinner afterward at the church with close Christian friends. We often talk about current events and how they relate to Bible prophecy, or share challenges and sorrows we’re encountering, but most of the time, we just have fun. After dinner, some of us attend a Bible study. Regularly meeting with fellow believers has been such a joy in my life.
Some Christians think they can go it alone and not attend church services, Bible studies, or other faith-based events, but that’s not how God designed us. Proverbs 27:17 states that “iron sharpens iron,” meaning that we mature in our faith as we regularly meet with other believers. God wants us to enjoy fellowship with Him and other believers.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
“Iron sharpens iron.”
Prayer: Father in heaven, please continue providing opportunities for us to meet regularly with fellow believers.
