I typed the phrase, “What is Doomscrolling?” in Google and received the following AI answer: “Doomscrolling is the act of continuously consuming negative or distressing news, often on social media or news websites. It involves spending excessive time scrolling through articles, videos, or posts that evoke feelings of anxiety, fear, or sadness.”
I don’t know about you, but I find myself flipping between Facebook, Instagram, and the Fox News app more often than I wish, and before I know it, an hour has slipped by without me realizing it. Many apps contain algorithms that recognize the type of content you like, then feed it to you over and over again, keeping the dopamine hits flowing so you won’t leave.
From a worldly perspective, what I see on social media can be entertaining and informative, but mostly it’s a waste of time, and can negatively impact my outlook on life. I need to discipline myself each day to not get trapped in it when I should be doing something else. From a spiritual perspective, doomscrolling can be a tool Satan uses to keep us continually entertained and distracted, diverting us from thinking about our mortality, and preventing us from accomplishing God’s will for the day within our sphere of influence.

What does God want me to get done today?
Prayer: Father in heaven, please help me to “turn my eyes away from worthless things.”
