BLEACH

READ Proverbs 20:5-9

“Who can say, ‘I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin?’”

- Proverbs 20:9 (NIV)

One morning, I was surprised to discover how shiny our chrome bathtub drain cover had become. The bleach I’d poured along the tub’s caulked edges a few minutes earlier had dribbled downward onto the drain cover, stripping away the grime. I hadn’t even realized it was dirty.

Likewise, if we fail to read the Bible consistently, our minds can become spiritually dirty without us even realizing it. Under the control of Satan (1 John 5:19), the world creeps in little by little, filling us with various notions contrary to God’s Word, causing us to drift away from the Lord’s best for our lives.

While bleach can wash away the outside grime, only God’s Word can cleanse the inside. A daily sprinkling of His truth will convict us of sin, quicken us to repent, and sanitize us from any filth in our lives, restoring us to right fellowship with him (1 John 1:9).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool” (Isaiah 1:18).

Prayer: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). Amen.
