HE KNOWS WHAT YOU NEED

READ Matthew 6:5-15

“… your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

- Matthew 6:8 (NIV)

As I sat down for breakfast with my three-year-old son, I realized he didn’t have a spoon to eat his cereal. While on my way to the silverware drawer, he said, “Dad, I need a spoon.” I immediately thought of the verse from the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) in which Jesus said, “… your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Events in our lives can sometimes seem overwhelming, without a solution in sight. We may feel anxious about our future, crushed by our present, guilty about our past, or bored with the mundane routines of life. Whatever our perspective, if we’ve trusted in Jesus Christ to pay for our sins, we are a child of God (Romans 8:16). Any problem one of God’s children has is already known to him and is not too hard for him to solve (Jeremiah 32:17,27). If God chooses not to resolve our issue according to our timetable, he will give us the strength to endure it (Philippians 4:13). One day, we can leverage our experiences to help others (2 Corinthians 1:4).

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“… if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14).

Prayer:  Father, please help me to trust that you know what’s best for me. Amen.
