GO SAVE SOMEONE

READ Acts 11:1-18

“… He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’”

- Acts 11:14 (NIV)

I overheard a neighbor call out to her son as he was leaving for work as a lifeguard: “Go save someone!” While she was obviously referring to the prevention of physical drowning, it struck me how profound her statement was from a spiritual perspective. Isn’t that what our heavenly Father would have us do as we head off to work each morning?

An angel appeared to a Roman centurion named Cornelius in a vision, telling him to send for Simon, also known as Peter, who was staying in Joppa. When Cornelius’s men arrived in Joppa, the Holy Spirit told the Apostle Peter to go with them.

When Peter arrived at the centurion’s home in Caesarea, he learned that Cornelius had invited all his relatives and close friends to hear what he had to say. Peter testified that Jesus was killed by being hung on a cross, but was raised from the dead three days later and observed by his disciples. All those gathered at Cornelius’s house believed, then were filled with the Holy Spirit and baptized.

Some of us may be called to invite, while others may be called to testify. Whatever our role, we ought to be obedient to the Holy Spirit’s prompting so our friends and family will be saved.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Who does God want me to reach out to today?

Prayer:  Father, please open my eyes to those around me who need you. In Jesus' name, I pray, amen.
