Red Scribbles
READ John 5:16-30

My NIV Study Bible is filled with neatly underlined Scripture passages, circled cross references, and handwritten notes in the margins. Interrupting these structured annotations are stray, red magic marker scribbles. I don’t know where they came from, but I suspect my son added them when he was a toddler. He was doing what he saw his father doing.
As noted in the scripture passage for today, Jesus did what he saw his Father doing. He did this out of reverent submission and obedience to accomplish his Father’s will, while also setting an example for us. To be a follower of Jesus, we must do what Jesus did. This involves obeying his commands (John 14:15), being a doer of his word (James 1:22), and pouring what we’ve learned into others (Matthew 28:18-20).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
The Christian walk is more caught than taught.
Prayer: Father in heaven, please help us do what Jesus did.
