Forgotten God

READ Hosea 13:4-9

When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.

-  Hosea 13:5-6 (NIV)

My wife and I took a long overdue vacation to Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, to celebrate our twenty-fifth and thirtieth wedding anniversaries. We met many very nice people in these beautiful countries, and the food—especially breakfast—was fantastic.

While riding on the bus, our tour guide said something that surprised me: “Very few people here go to church.” After thinking about it, I realized this pattern occurs in many wealthy countries such as the United States. Why is that?

Perhaps it’s because most people in these countries have their basic physical needs met—food, shelter, safety, family, transportation, education, employment, healthcare, and retirement—and don’t think they need God. They’ve forgotten him. They don’t realize they depend on him for every breath they take. Let us thank him each day for his many blessings.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind” (Job 12:10).

Prayer:  Father in heaven, please help us realize how dependent we are on you.

Prayer Focus:  OUR NEED FOR GOD

I don’t think all of us have forgotten God. I just think many of us have lost interest in organized religion feeling there are so many places just pushing a certain way of thinking regarding politics, guilting us into taking peoples money away from them and losing the real reason which is communit

"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24-25). I recommend finding a church that promotes community, teaches the Bible, loves God, and loves people.
