One-way Mirror

READ Proverbs 15:1-11

For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.

--  Proverbs 5:21 (NIV)

Our church has a playroom staffed with volunteers who watch infants and toddlers while the parents attend church services. Sometimes, the little ones cry when they’re dropped off, making mom and dad reluctant to leave. Fortunately, the room is equipped with a one-way mirror which enables parents to exit the room and watch how their child is doing before they go to church.

In Proverbs 5:21, we learn that all our ways are in full view of the Lord and that he examines all our paths. It’s as if he has a one-way mirror in heaven through which he can see us, but we can’t see him. However, God probes more deeply. He not only observes our actions and words, but he knows the thoughts and motives of our hearts (Proverbs 15:11).

Most of us act one way when we’re being watched, and another way when we’re not. The truth is, we’re always being watched. “Nothing in creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account” (Hebrews 4:13).

On the one hand, this motivates me to strive to be holy in all that I do (1 Peter 1:15-16). On the other hand, I’m thankful that I have a loving heavenly Father watching over me, even though I can’t see him.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“Be holy, because I am holy” (Leviticus 11:44).

Prayer:  Thank you, Father, for watching over us, even though we can’t see you.

Prayer Focus:  PERSONAL HOLINESS

Thank you Rick, this was a great one, so true, and all your posts each week I really appreciate reading as God gives us things to meditate on and think about which is so important. Thank you Rick for doing these may the Lord Jesus continue to speak through you to all of us. Laurie
