Deny by Default

READ Romans 3

As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one” … for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God…

-- Romans 3:10,23 (NIV)

An essential part of my job as a Program Manager is working with engineers who are experts in a particular area of Information Technology. One such field is Cloud Security, which ensures the proper procedures and controls are in place to prevent unauthorized access to systems or data hosted on cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). One of my cloud security friends told me AWS employs an overriding security principle called Deny by Default (aka Explicit Deny). This means system access is automatically denied unless specific rules are written to allow it.

Human access to heaven is denied by default. The apostle John wrote, “Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:27).

God is holy and righteous, and we are not (Isaiah 6:1-5). We’ve all sinned and fallen short of God’s righteous standards. There’s nothing we can do to merit entry into heaven by our good works (Ephesians 2:8-9). God the Father knows this, so he sent his son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die on a cross to pay for our sins. If we believe this (Act 16:31), choose to repent of our sins (Luke 13:3), and are willing to accept his offer of forgiveness (John 1:12), we can be sure our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life, and we’ll be allowed to live with God forever in heaven one day.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

We have access to God through Jesus.

Prayer:  Father in heaven, thank you for making it possible for us to live with you forever.

Prayer Focus:  INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS
