Stay off the Grass
READ Proverbs 14:1-12
There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
-- Proverbs 14:12 (NIV, 1985)
I frequently walked our dog on the sidewalks near our home. Normally, I’d let her stray off the sidewalks onto our neighbor’s grass to explore, but in the spring, many lawns displayed warning signs that fertilizer had just been applied. While she’d keep tugging on the leash for me to let her walk on the grass, I had to pull back to keep her on the sidewalk so she wouldn’t get harmful fertilizer on her paws. While she didn’t understand why I was keeping her off the grass, I was doing it for her good.
Likewise, there may be times when God keeps away from things that aren’t good for us, even though we may not understand why.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
God wants what’s best for us.
Prayer: Father in heaven, please help us to follow your ways, even when we’re not sure why.
