The Scripture Cannot be Broken

READ John 10:31-39

… the Scripture cannot be broken …

-- John 10:35b (NKJV)

The Bible is divided into two major sections: (1) The Old Testament, which is the history, law, wisdom, and prophecy writings of the ancient Jewish people from Genesis to Malachi; (2) The New Testament, which is the gospels, acts, epistles, and prophecy writings of the ancient Christian people from Matthew to Revelation.

When I first became a Christian, I didn’t think the Old Testament applied to Christians and didn’t believe many of the stories. I later learned that Jesus testified to the veracity of the Old Testament and that it prophesied about him (Isaiah 42:1-9). He said that the Scripture—meaning the Old Testament—cannot be broken (John 10:35b) and that he came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). He also specifically referred to Jonah and the whale (Matthew 12:40), Abel, the son of Adam and Eve (Matthew 23:35), and Noah, builder of the ark (Matthew 24:37-38). So, either those Old Testament stories are true, or Jesus is wrong. Each person has to decide for themselves.

The Apostle Paul, in referring to the Old Testament, wrote that “All Scripture is God-breathed …”

We can have confidence that the entire Bible is true and applicable to our lives, not just parts of it.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

All Scripture is God-breathed.

Prayer:  Father in heaven, please help us to believe all of your word, the Bible, not just parts of it.

Prayer Focus:  THOSE SEEKING TRUTH

I'm enjoying these well thought out and well written essays. Although they seem to be presented in a light almost casual text I think they are meant for us to take time and really think deeper about these breaths of God. I like how you put that. Thank you, Rick !
